You should also keep up with updates from Microsoft (usually new computers show an alert when new updates are available) and from your specific computer company. These updates are designed to keep you protected with the latest security features, as well as improvements for smooth operation of your system.

The best defense against viruses is keeping your computer's anti-virus program up-to-date.
This means being sure to run the live update feature at least monthly, then running a full system scan.
